IQNA – A TalkTV interview with a Palestinian politician drew sharp criticism on social media, where many viewers accused the host, Julia Hartley-Brewer, of Islamophobia and unprofessionalism.

The politician, Dr. Mustafa Barghouti, the general secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative, was on the show to discuss the assassination of a Hamas leader, Saleh al-Arouri, by the Israeli regime.

The interview, which TalkTV posted online, showed Hartley-Brewer repeatedly interrupting and talking over Barghouti, who remained composed and courteous.

Many users said Hartley-Brewer treated Barghouti with disrespect and racism, and reflected a wider bias in Western media against Palestinians.

The tension escalated when Hartley-Brewer asked Dr. Barghouti about his views on Hamas, Israel and the United States.

Some of her questions were seen as misleading or stereotypical, especially when she said, “For the love of God, let me finish my sentence, man! Maybe you’re not used to women talking, I don’t know!” That remark provoked more outrage, with some viewers calling it sexist and irrelevant to the topic.
