IQNA – It is deduced from the verses of the Quran that this world is the place where the appearance of things are manifested whereas the hereafter is the place for revelation of their Malakut.

Mulk and Malakut

According to Verse 5 of Surah Al-Hadid, “To Him belongs the Mulk (sovereignty) of the heavens and the earth. To Him all matters shall return.”

And in Verse 75 of Surah Al-Anaam, their Malakut is mentioned:

“And so We showed Abraham the Malakut (kingdom) of the heavens and the earth, so that he might be of those who are certain.”

So there is a Mulk and there is Malakut of the heavens and earth.

Here are two other verses that talk about Mulk and Malakut:

“Blessed be He in whose Hand is the Mulk (Kingdom), He is powerful over all things,” (Verse 1 of Surah Al-Mulk)

“Exaltations to Him in whose Hand is the Malakut of all things, and to Him you will be returned.” (Verse 83 of Surah Yasin)

So it can be inferred from these and other verses that this world is the world of Mulk where the appearance of things are manifested while the next world is where their Malakut is revealed.

Of course, these truths also exist in this worldly life or are created through our actions but we cannot notice them due to the barrier of negligence. In the hereafter, though, the barriers are removed:

“Certainly you were heedless of it, but now We have removed from you your veil, so your sight today is sharp.” (Verse 22 of Surah Qaaf)
