IQNA – An Austrian court has handed a six-month imprisonment sentence to a pro-Palestine activist over his post on social media.

In Austria, Michael Probsting, a well-known pro-Palestine advocate and international secretary of the Revolutionary Communist International Tendency (RCIT), received a six-month suspended sentence.

The charge of "incitement" was leveled against him following his failure to remove a video expressing support for Palestinian resistance.

Judge Stefan Apostol determined that Probsting, who owns the media rights to his website and YouTube channel, was complicit in endorsing "terrorist crimes" by not adhering to a Media Act directive to delete the contentious videos. He faced allegations of "incitement to commit terrorist offences."

The sentence has not yet been finalized.

Defence attorney Astrid Wagner, speaking to Anadolu Agency, contended that Probsting was unaware of the full context of the incident when he made the video on the afternoon of October 7. She argued that the Public Prosecutor’s Office exhibited political bias in its charges against her client.

Probsting, responding to the court's decision, stated, "I support the resistance struggle of the Palestinian people. I will continue to do so. My trial was an attempt to criminalise support for Palestine."
