IQNA – A Malaysian pilgrim succumbed within the Grand Mosque in Mecca, just 12 hours after his arrival to partake in the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

The man, Mohammad Zuhair, was in his 50s and dressed in the traditional white Ihram attire when he passed away in the Tawaf courtyard, according to Sabq, a Saudi news outlet.

Zuhair, who reportedly had no health issues, had embarked on the sacred journey with his wife after their last-minute Hajj application was unexpectedly approved.

Upon reaching Mecca with a group of Malaysian pilgrims, Zuhair completed the Tawaf, the ritual of circling the Kaaba. The incident occurred as he was proceeding to Al Mas’aa for the Sa’i ritual.

Despite immediate medical attention, Zuhair collapsed a second time and was pronounced deceased.

His wife, Fawzia, shared a poignant memory of their departure from Kuala Lumpur, where Zuhair had reflected on the uncertainty of their return.

Fawzia expressed her belief that her husband had desired to breathe his last at the sanctity of the Grand Mosque, a wish that was tragically fulfilled.

Preparations for his burial are currently in progress.

The Hajj pilgrimage is a mandatory religious duty for Muslims who are physically and financially capable, to be fulfilled at least once in their lifetime.
