The alarming figure was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by Husam Abu Safiya, the director of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital.
Abu Safiya stated, "Around 50 children suffering from malnutrition have been counted in just one week, and the specter of famine looms over Gaza.”
He further added, “The health system in Gaza is a target of the [Israeli] occupation, but we are trying to resume medical services at a minimum despite fuel shortages.”
Abu Safiya warned of a “catastrophic” situation across the territory as Israeli forces hinder the delivery of humanitarian aid following the closure of Gaza’s major crossings, particularly Rafah and Karm Abu Salem, by the Israeli regime.
His warning followed a report by the United Nations children’s agency, UNICEF, stating that 90 percent of children in Gaza are unable to consume the nutrients necessary for their proper growth due to the Israeli war obstructing aid delivery to the besieged Palestinian territory.

UNICEF revealed that data collected in five rounds between December 2023 and April 2024 consistently found that "9 out of 10 children in the Gaza Strip are experiencing severe food poverty, surviving on two or fewer food groups per day.”
The agency added that the ongoing war and Israel’s restrictions on aid delivery have led to the collapse of food and health systems in Gaza, resulting in “catastrophic consequences” for children and their families.
Palestinian media reports indicate that more than 37 children have died due to starvation amid the ongoing Israeli aggression in several hospitals across Gaza, particularly in Kamal Adwan Hospital, where approximately 30 children have lost their lives.

The Israeli regime unleased the bloody war on Gaza on October 7 after Palestinian resistance groups launched an operation against the entity in response to increased Israeli crimes against Palestinians.
The Israeli aggression has so far killed at least 37,084 Palestinians, most of them women and children, while leaving more than 84,000 others injured. Thousands of people are believed to be buried under the rubble of buildings leveled by Israeli bombs.
