Egypt to Expand Quranic Activities in New Islamic Year: Ministry

IQNA – The Awqaf ministry of Egypt said there are plans for a significant increase in Quranic activities and mosques’ programs in the upcoming Islamic lunar calendar year.

The new Islamic year of 1446 will start on Sunday, July 7.  

The ministry’s spokesman said the next year’s programs will include more than 500 Quranic seminars and forums.

The number of Quranic circles and recitation sessions will also rise significantly, Abdullah Hassan added.

He said the efforts to restore and renovate mosques will also continue in 1446.

He noted that some 12,000 mosques across the country have been restored and renovated since 2014 at a cost of nearly 18 billion Egyptian pounds

In the new year, restoration work will be carried out in 16 major mosques, according to the spokesman.

Hassan also said that Khatm Qurans (reciting the Holy Book from the beginning to the end) are planned to be held in mosques of the country on the first day of the new year with the participation of senior qaris.
