IQNA – Ugandan international Travis Mutyaba has announced his convertion to Islam.

Ugandan football player Travis Mutyaba converts to Islam

 

Mutyaba, who plays for the Egyptian side Zamalek after joining the team last January, made the announcement on Tuesday. 

He said he has changed his first name to Jamal after embracing Islam, Al Jazeera reported.

His teammates have welcomed the move, congratulating him on becoming a Muslim.

Mohamed Ashraf, a Zamalek winger, wrote in a post on his Instagram page:  Welcome to Islam my brother Jamal.”

Since joining Zamalek, Mutyaba has put up a good performance, receiving the praise of the fans.

He is the latest of African football players who converted to Islam after playing in Egypt.

Among the others are the late Zamalek star, Quarshie, as well as former Al-Ahly and Zamalek star, Felix Aboagye, who had changed his name to Ahmed Felix.
