Arbaeen an Opportunity to Promote Quranic Culture: Official

IQNA – The Arbaeen procession, with its large number of pilgrims, presents a valuable opportunity to promote Quranic culture, an Iranian Quranic official says.

“It is essential to leverage the significant gathering of Arbaeen to expand and promote Quranic culture,” Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Taghizadeh, Head of Iran’s Dar-ol-Quran Organization, told IQNA on Tuesday.

The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. It marks the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS). This year’s Arbaeen is expected to fall on August 25, depending on the moonsighting.

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites. The pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to the holy city.

Taghizadeh noted that during Arbaeen and other events related to Ahl al-Bayt (AS), the primary focus is on the pilgrims’ deep affection and heartfelt connection to Ahl al-Bayt (AS). “We should channel this popular love for Imam Hussein (AS) and Ahl al-Bayt (A.S.) toward fostering love and affection for the Quran.”

“It's crucial to highlight how much Imam Hussein (AS) and other members of Ahl al-Bayt (AS) cherished the Holy Quran,” he stressed.

“This significant event attracts a diverse array of people from various villages, cities, and regions that might not be easily accessible otherwise,” he said, adding, “Hence, we should seize this opportunity to impart Quranic concepts.”

The challenge is determining how best to convey this content to the pilgrims, he noted.

Given the nature of the event, it’s impractical to engage in lengthy conversations or extended speeches, Taghizadeh said, adding that therefore, Quranic information should be shared during the Arbaeen walk through environmental advertisements and concise content delivered in a brief, impactful manner.
