IQNA – Jordan has been the scene of a wave of protests in recent days, with demonstrators with the demonstrators criticizing the Amman government’s inaction on Israeli desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Israeli settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque

The protests were sparked by the latest provocation by the Zionists when a far-right Israeli regime minister joined illegal settlers in storing the holy site in al-Quds.

Later, a Jordanian named Isra Zahir was arrested by Jordanian security forces for carrying a placard reading “Where is the Hashemite custodianship?”

The arrest intensified the scale of the protests with the hashtag “Hashemite custodianship” trending.

Since 1948, the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound has been under the custodianship of the Hashemite rulers of Jordan, administered through the Jerusalem al-Quds Waqf.

Jordanians have frequently called on the government to use the 1994 peace treaty with the Israeli regime to defend Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Amman government has frequently been accused by the people of the country of siding with the Zionist regime and failing to fulfil its responsibility of protecting the holy site in al-Quds.
