Musa Haqaani, head of the Institute for Iranian Contemporary Historical Studies, addressed a forum held Tuesday in Karbala, Iraq, on “Committed and Resistance Family in Culture of Ashura”.

The forum was jointly organized by the Strategic Studies Center of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), the women’s department of the Arbaeen Cultural Headquarters, and Iraq’s al-Zahra Islamic Seminary.

It discussed the status of woman in family and its importance in conveying the messages of Ashura to members of family.

In his speech, Haqaani reiterated the family-based civilization-building function of the Arbaeen pilgrimage.

He said that by benefiting from the blessings of the pilgrimage with a focus on the role of women, pious and courageous children can be raised in society.

Arbaeen is a religious event observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam. It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries.

This year, the day of Arbaeen falls on August 25.

Imam Sadiq (AS) University scholar Tahereh Mohseni was another speaker at the Karbala forum.

She talked about the history-making role of contemporary women following the example of Hazrat Zeynab (SA).

She said that as a perfect human being, Hazrat Zeynab (SA) is a flawless role model for women in all eras.

Ms Shorouq from an education institute in Karbala in her speech underscored the messages of Arbaeen, whose essence is Imam Hussein’s (AS) emphasis on acting upon the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, and spreading religious teachings.

Imam Hussein (AS) University professor Maryam Varzdar then took the podium to talk about the issue of “Arbaeen and family’s civilization factors”.

She noted that Hazrat Zeynab (AS) has stressed in her sermons that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) based the Islamic civilization on the family.

The focus of the event of Ashura is also an emphasis on civilization based on family, she stated.
