In remarks before departing for Baghdad, Pezeshkian said the visit will mark the opening of a new chapter in the development and deepening of economic, cultural, political and security ties with Muslim and neighboring countries.
He described Iraq as a friendly and brotherly Muslim country with which Iran has had extensive cooperation in various political, economic and social fields.
Numerous cooperation agreements will be signed by the two countries during the trip, he noted.
Pezeshkian also appreciated the Iraqi government and people’s hosting of Iranian pilgrims during the Arbaeen procession earlier this month.

He added that that visiting the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf is on his agenda during the trip to Iraq.
