Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the statements in a meeting with a host of Iranian Sunni scholars from across the country on Monday in Tehran to mark the Islamic Unity Week.
“The issue of the ‘Islamic Ummah’ must never be forgotten,” he said, adding, “The issue of the identity of the Islamic Ummah is fundamental and goes beyond nationality, and geographical borders do not alter the truth and identity of the Islamic Ummah.”
Hostile efforts are underway to make Muslims indifferent to their Islamic identity, he said, adding, “It is against Islamic teachings for a Muslim to be indifferent to the suffering of another Muslim in Gaza or other parts of the world.”
Ill-wishers have long-standing plans and activities aimed at fueling religious differences in the Islamic world, especially in Iran, he noted, adding, “Using intellectual, propaganda, and economic tools, they seek to separate Shia and Sunni in our country and other Islamic regions, and by provoking individuals from both sides to speak ill of each other, they fuel hostility and division.”

The way to counter these conspiracies is to rely on unity, Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted. “Unity is not a tactic, but a Quranic principle.”
The Leader noted that achieving the important goal of the dignity of the Islamic Ummah is only possible through unity.
“Today, one of the definite obligations is to support the oppressed in Gaza and Palestine, and if anyone neglects this duty, they will certainly be held accountable before the Almighty.”
