IQNA – A Yemeni university scholar underlined the importance of introducing and promoting the Seerah and moral virtues of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Sayid Ibahim al-Shami, a professor of the University of Sana’a, speaking to IQNA on the sidelines of 38th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran

Speaking to IQNA on the sidelines of the 38th International Islamic Unity Conference, held in Tehran earlier this month, Sayid Ibahim al-Shami, a professor of the University of Sana’a, said the last messenger of God is undoubtedly the best role model for the whole world.

He referred to Verse 21 of the Quran’s Surah Al-Azhab, “The Messenger of God is certainly a good example for those of you who have hope in God and in the Day of Judgment and who remember God very often,” and said anyone who wants to tread on the right path should follow the Seerah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Al-Shami noted that the Prophet (PBUH) was Al-Insan Al-Kamil (the person who has reached perfection), and there is no perfection or virtue that he did not have.

He said among the outstanding moral virtues of the Prophet (PBUH) were great morality, mercy and compassion, about which God says in Verse 4 of Surah Al-Qalam, “Surely, you (Prophet Muhammad) are of a great morality.”

The Yemeni scholar underscored that the Prophet (PBUH) has been a mercy and blessing for all humanity.

In today’s world where morality has declined there is an urgent need to return to the prophetic Seerah, morals and values, he said.

Asked about how to confront the questions and doubts raised about the Prophet (PBUH) al-Shami noted that that the last messenger of God has always had enemies.

These enemies are either among Muslims themselves or are outsiders, he stated, adding that the internal enemies mention inaccurate Hadiths and interpretations about the Prophet (PBUH).

As for the outsiders, including orientalists, he said they present ideas and theories about the Quran and Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH) that have no basis.

He said Muslims should clarify the facts and spread the truth by referring to correct Hadiths and Quran interpretations in order to respond to the questions and doubts.

Elsewhere in his remarks, al-Shami emphasized the need to remove obstacles to the realization of Muslim unity, saying that followers of different Islamic schools of thought should engage in dialogue to eliminate misunderstandings, and the use of social media networks is one of the means in this regard.

The 38th Islamic Unity Conference was held by World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought in the Iranian capital Tehran from September 19 to 21.

More than 200 prominent religious figures from across Iran and Islamic countries attended the three-day event to exchange views on the latest developments in the world of Islam, with the issue of Palestine remaining as the focal point of the debates.
