The Holy Quran Institute, affiliated with the Astan, holds the sessions every week.
They are aimed at boosting the Quranic skills of the city’s qaris, according to the website of the Astan.
During each session, qaris recite verses from the Holy Book and then Sheikh Mahdi Qalandar, a Quran expert instructor, offers his assessment of the performance in terms of the rules of recitation, Waqf, Ibtida, Sawt and Lahn, Ali al-Zubaidi, an official with the institute said.
He added that part of the session also features Quran recitations by prominent qaris of the Muslim world.
He noted that the branch of the institute in Najaf hosts the weekly Quranic sessions.
