32nd Sultan Qaboos Quran Competition Enters Final Stage

IQNA – The 32nd Sultan Qaboos Holy Quran Competition has reached its final stage, with the concluding rounds beginning on November 24 at the lecture hall of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, Oman.

Organized by the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science, the annual competition is one of Oman’s most prominent events promoting Quran memorization and recitation.

This year, 59 finalists advanced from an initial pool of 1,790 participants across seven categories. 

Participants were selected following preliminary rounds held at 25 locations nationwide, including major cities such as Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa, and Salalah, as well as smaller towns and even the central prison, Oman Daily reported. 

The competition spans seven categories, accommodating different age groups and abilities, from memorizing two consecutive parts of the Quran for children as young as seven to mastering the entire Quran.

Evaluation criteria focus on memorization accuracy, recitation quality, and adherence to Tajweed rules.

The first edition of the nationwide Quranic event was held in 1991.

Oman is a country situated in Southwest Asia, bordering the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, and Persian Gulf, between Yemen and United Arab Emirates (UAE). Virtually all Omanis are Muslim.
