IQNA – A senior Hamas official said the resistance movement would support a possible ceasefire between Lebanon’s Hezbollah and the Israeli regime.

Osama Hamdan said Hamas would welcome any announcement of a ceasefire, Al-Quds al-Arabi website reported.

“Hezbollah has stood by our nation (Palestine) and made great sacrifices,” he added.

While there have been reports that Lebanon and the Israeli regime have agreed to the terms of a ceasefire deal, there has been no official statement about it yet.

The regime’s ambassador to Washington said Monday a ceasefire deal could be reached “within days.”

Mike Herzog told Israeli Army Radio there remain “points to finalize” and any deal requires agreement from Tel Aviv. But he said “we are close to a deal.”

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly held a meeting on the ceasefire talks on Sunday. It included several senior ministers and intelligence chiefs of the regime.

The Lebanese resistance movement and the Zionist regime started exchange of fire one day after the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation in the Gaza Strip last October and the launch of Israeli genocidal war on the Palestinian enclave.

The fighting between Hezbollah and Israel escalated in September this year following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Sayed Hassan Nasrallah and the movement’s other senior leaders and commanders in Israeli airstrikes.
