According to National Police Inspector General, Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, Quran memorizers exhibit strong discipline and character, traits that align with the core values of the police institution, Tempo reported on Monday.
He noted, "Polri also provides broad opportunities for Quran memorizers and santri who wish to become police officers," in his written statement issued on February 10, 2025.
The initiative complements the existing focus on Islamic boarding school students (santri) in the police recruitment process.

Dedi highlighted that the structured educational environment of Quran memorizers fosters an ability to adhere to orders and protocols effectively.
However, he observed a decline over the past four years in recruits with backgrounds in Islamic boarding schools or Quran memorization, expressing hope for a reversal of this trend during the current recruitment cycle.
Earlier, Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo announced that the 2025 recruitment would prioritize candidates from the santri pathway.

He emphasized that santri-trained officers tend to demonstrate greater resilience against unethical influences in their line of duty. "With a strong foundation of faith, they will be able to withstand challenges and temptations," Sigit stated during the Nahdlatul Ulama National Conference at the Sultan Hotel on February 5, 2025.
