The proposal outlines plans for a double-story portacabin to be constructed across several parking spaces adjacent to the mosque, Oxford Mail reported on Tuesday.
The intended facility aims to serve as a multi-purpose community space, open to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and faiths.
Organizers have stated that the space will be adaptable for various activities, including programs for the elderly, children's groups, mother-and-child gatherings, educational initiatives, and youth clubs.

According to the application, the mosque currently faces challenges when community classes must be canceled at short notice due to Muslim funeral rites.
The applicant explained, “The current issue faced by the mosque is whilst classes happen daily, in the event of any deaths amongst the community classes are having to be cancelled in short notice due to the nature of Muslim funeral rights. The portacabin will provide much needed space so that any sudden changes can be accommodated.”
The proposed structure is planned for the southwest corner of the car park, which would result in the removal of seven parking spaces.

The application notes that the additional facility will not require increased staffing, extended hours, or result in higher foot traffic. It also states that the reduction in parking spaces will not negatively impact car park users.
The planning application has been submitted to Cherwell District Council and is available for public viewing and consultation via the council’s planning portal until February 27.
