IQNA – The Leader of Islamic Revolution has praised Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli for his decades-long contribution to Quranic exegesis, describing his Tasnim Exegesis as a remarkable scholarly achievement for Islamic seminaries.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s remarks, delivered during a meeting with the organizers of the International Conference on Tafsir Tasnim on February 22, 2025, were made public today at a conference in Qom which marks the completion of the exegesis.

Ayatollah Khamenei commended Ayatollah Javadi Amoli’s efforts in Quran interpretation, noting that his over 40 years of research, teaching, and authorship have left a lasting impact on Islamic scholarship.

“The seminary is indebted to his perseverance in compiling and teaching Tafsir Tasnim,” he stated.

He further acknowledged Ayatollah Javadi Amoli’s contributions in rational sciences, as well as in jurisprudence, philosophy, and mysticism. However, he emphasized that “none of these can be compared to his work on Quran exegesis.”

The Leader described Tasnim as a “source of pride” for both Shia scholarship and the Islamic seminaries.

“The exegete’s strong rational approach has significantly contributed to understanding the subtle and profound meanings embedded in Quranic verses,” he said.

Comparing the work to Allameh Tabatabi’s Tafsir al-Mizan, Ayatollah Khamenei noted that Tafsir Tasnim is broader in scope and presents a more contemporary perspective, making it an encyclopedic reference for scholars and students alike.

He also stressed the need for a technical and thematic index to enhance the accessibility of the extensive work.

Expressing concern over the limited focus on Quranic exegesis in seminaries, he honored the late Allameh Tabatabai, as the pioneer of modern Quranic interpretation studies.

He welcomed the increasing number of Quranic interpretation courses in Qom, stating, “The fact that nearly 200 exegesis sessions are being held in the Qom seminary is a promising development that should be strengthened and sustained.”

Additionally, Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized the importance of completing the Arabic translation of Tafsir Tasnim to make it more accessible across the Islamic world.

He also extended his appreciation to Ayatollah Javadi Amoli and the team of scholars involved in compiling the work.

At the start of the meeting, Ayatollah Alireza Arafi, head of Iran’s seminaries, provided an overview of the conference and highlighted the unique thematic and interdisciplinary approaches of Tafsir Tasnim.

Hojat-ol-Islam Saeed Javadi Amoli, head of the Isra Institute, also spoke at the event, detailing the methodology behind the writing and structuring of Tafsir Tasnim and the collaborative research efforts that contributed to its development.

He also conveyed Ayatollah Javadi Amoli’s greetings to the Leader.

Tafsir Tasnim, authored by Ayatollah Javadi Amoli, spans 80 volumes and is the result of over four decades of scholarly effort.

The work follows the “Quran by Quran” exegesis method, analyzing selected verses in four stages: a summary of the interpretation, a detailed exegesis, insights and subtleties, and a hadith-based discussion.
