Swedish Convert Talks about Her Journey to Islam
In an interview with the Swedish daily SVD, she talked about the reasons why she chose to embrace the religion.
“In Sweden, I worked in male-dominated environments. In one workplace, my colleagues were mostly older men, yet I still experienced sexual comments and looks from them. After several years, I moved to a new job in a city with a large Muslim population,” she said.
“At my new workplace, there were men who chose to go to the mosque on Fridays instead of going out for celebrations. They opted to pray instead of taking breaks or smoking. They completely avoided touching, shaking hands, or making direct eye contact with members of the opposite sex, explaining that they did so out of respect for women and to uphold their privacy. These experiences ultimately led me to embrace Islam.”
Hannah, who wears the Hijab, said it gives her respect and confidence.
“Hijab protects me from the gaze of men and ensures that my beauty does not become a temptation for others, giving me power, confidence, and respect.”
Hannah, who has 24,000 followers on her TikTok account, said many followers reach out to her through messages and calls, wanting to know more about Islam and her reasons for converting.

“Sometimes, Swedes want to learn about Islam through me. They want to know what steps they need to take to convert to Islam. In some cases, individuals born into the faith seek to learn more about their religion because they know little about Islam due to the challenges of living in Sweden.”
The war on the Gaza Strip has led to more people trying to know about Islam, she noted.
