The first stage of the competition, which began at the start of Ramadan, was structured into three rounds, each lasting eight days. A total of 96 reciters competed over 24 nights, with 24 finalists advancing to the final round. To ensure fairness and encourage wider participation, the panel of judges changed for each round, incorporating experts from various countries.
Organizers emphasized that “Wa Rattil” is the first international competition in the Islamic world dedicated specifically to the art of Tarteel (measured recitation of the Quran). The event, broadcast nightly throughout Ramadan, aimed to highlight excellence in Quranic recitation and promote engagement with the holy text across diverse communities.
