Seyed Ahmad Najaf, a Quran reciter, media activist, and the host of the competition, announced the event, Dubbed “Wa Rattil” (…and recite the Quran in a distinct tone- Verse 4 of Surah Al-Muzzammil), in an interview with the International Quran News Agency (IQNA).
“This contest features 200 participants from various Asian, European, African, Latin American, and Southeast Asian countries. It is being held as a televised competition,” he said.
Najaf explained that the first round of the contest, which started at the beginning of Ramadan, consists of three eight-day stages.
Experts from Egypt, Iran, Afghanistan, and Iraq evaluate the performances of participants.
At the end of each stage, the top contestants will advance to the final round, scheduled for the last days of Ramadan. To ensure fairness and broader international participation, the judging panel changes every eight days.
According to the organizing committee, Wa Rattil is the first specialized Quranic event in the Islamic world dedicated exclusively to the recitation style of Tarteel.
