Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour made the remark in an address to a meeting of the culture ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Kazan, the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, on Thursday.
He emphasized the need to strengthen intercultural dialogues and create effective institutions to solve global issues.
The cleric expressed his happiness at the gathering of high-ranking officials from Islamic countries, and appreciated the choice of the theme of this session, saying, “Today more than ever, we need a constructive dialogue between governments and nations, especially Islamic countries.”
Referring to the rapid developments in the world, he said that at a time when the world is passing through a historic turning point, it is imperative to hold regular and inclusive dialogues to address fundamental issues such as human rights, good governance, youth education, lifestyle, family, the future of human civilization and new technologies, including artificial intelligence.
Hojat-ol-Islam Imanipour also criticized the ineffectiveness of international institutions in dealing with the ongoing crises, especially with the situation of the oppressed people of Gaza, adding, “The inaction of these institutions in the face of genocide and open oppression in Palestine has increased the suffering and anger of freedom-loving people. It is of great importance that the OIC become more active in resolving the Palestinian issue as the first issue of the Islamic world.”
Emphasizing the need to form new alliances among Islamic countries, he said the solution to the Palestinian problem lies in the cooperation of Muslim countries and joint action.
The realization of a united Islamic Ummah is the only way out of unilateralism in international relations, he stated.
He concluded by thanking the government of the Russian Federation, in particular the Ministry of Culture and the authorities of the city of Kazan for the warm hospitality, expressing hope that the development of cultural dialogues will set a clear path for the future of the Islamic world.
