The delegation held talks with Fr. Charles Lwanga Ssuuna, the Chargé d'Affaires of the embassy, on continuation of cooperation in different fields, Hassan Nama, head of the Astan’s public relations office said.
He noted that the visit was coordinated by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, imamhussain.org reported.
The delegation expressed condolences on the death of Pope Francis, recalling his historic visit to Iraq and his meeting with the supreme religious authority in Najaf (Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani), which had a profound impact on opening the doors of dialogue and building bridges of peace, he stated.
The delegation also conveyed their congratulations on the appointment of Pope Leo XIV as the new Pope of the Vatican and expressed the hope for the new leader of the Catholic Church to visit Iraq and the holy city of Karbala.
The delegation further emphasized the importance of continuing joint cooperation between the two sides, especially in the cultural and humanitarian fields.
