French Muslim Council Urges France, EU to Recognize Palestine, Suspend Ties with Israel

In a statement issued Tuesday, the CFCM said, "In the face of this barbarity, we must act. It is time for France and the European Union to take concrete and courageous measures."

The organization urged immediate recognition of Palestinian statehood and the imposition of diplomatic and economic sanctions aimed at pressuring the Israeli cabinet to stop its policy of “colonization and deportation.”

“Silence is complicity. History will judge those who maintained it,” the statement added.

The council condemned Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza, describing it as part of a "genocidal plan" carried out under the “chilling silence” of global powers.

The statement evoked distressing imagery, noting: “Images of mutilated children, operated on without anesthesia, or reduced to skeletons by starvation, will forever mark the conscience of humanity.”

The CFCM also highlighted a “double standard” in Western responses, pointing to strong mobilization for Ukraine versus a “passive stance” on Palestine. “The Muslims of France, like all citizens who care about justice, will remember this betrayal: of France’s fundamental values, international commitments, humanitarian law, and universal principles.”
