The Saba Islamic Center in San Jose hosts the religious events, according to the Fitrat International Institute.

Shia Muslims and devotees of the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) in San Jose gather at the Saba Islamic Center, one of the largest Shia Islamic centers in the United States, to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) through religious sermons, lamentations, elegy recitations and mourning rituals.

This year, the center is holding Muharram mourning ceremonies in five separate languages, along with special programs for children and teenagers.

Hojat-ol-Islam Nabi Reza Abedi, the head of the center, oversees the Husseini mourning ceremonies during Muharram.

Shia Muslims, and others around the world, commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) every year during Muharram.

The third Shia Imam (AS) and a group of his family and companions were martyred in Karbala on the 10th of Muharram (Ashura), 680 AD, by the army of Yazid bin Muawiya.

The center hosts a variety of programs, including a weekly school for children, adult education classes, Friday prayers, Muharram, Safar, and Ramadan ceremonies, and regular Thursday night gatherings.

Additionally, the center organizes an annual group trip, and the Al-Hussein (AS) Youth Conference. It also coordinates religious donations (Fitra, Zakat, Khums) and charitable aid.
