Speaking in a televised speech that was broadcast by Al-Manar TV channel on Friday evening, Sheikh Naim Qassem said, “In response to those who demand that the resistance hand over its weapons, first demand the departure of the aggression. It is unreasonable not to criticize the occupation and only demand that those who resist it give up their weapons.”
He added, “Whoever accepts surrender must bear the consequences of that decision, but we will never accept it.”
Qassem further stated, “Defending the homeland does not require anyone’s permission, and when a serious and effective alternative for defense is proposed, we are ready to discuss all the details.”
The remarks came amid ongoing pressure by the United States, the Israeli regime, and their allies aimed at trying to force the movement to abandon its armed struggle that has liberated Lebanon on many critical occasions in the face of Washington-backed Israeli aggression.
The latest instance saw Hezbollah force the regime to come to terms with a ceasefire in more than a year of its escalated deadly atrocities against Lebanon.
The regime had launched the aggression in October 2023 in response to Hezbollah’s determined pro-Palestinian strikes against the occupied territories.
It, however, agreed to the deal after failing to either stop the resistance operations of cripple the movement as it had sought.

Sheikh Qassem’s address took place on the occasion of the holy morning month of Muharram, when millions of Muslims worldwide mark the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam.
The resistance leader laid emphasis on Imam Hussein’s historic commitment to fighting for truth during his iconic struggle against the tyrant of the time, Yazid ibn Muawiya, in 680 AD.
“Imam Hussein (AS) succeeded. That is [what should be called] true success,” Sheikh Qassem said, lauding the Shia Imam’s enduring legacy among Muslims of upholding the truth under whatever circumstances.
