IQNA – Turkey and Bulgaria have signed an agreement to restore two centuries-old mosques in Bulgaria, preserving Ottoman-era architectural heritage.

Turkey’s Directorate General of Foundations (VGM) and Bulgaria’s Grand Mufti’s Office formalized a cooperation protocol to renovate the Hz. Ebubekir Mosque in Yambol and the Sari Huseyin Pasha Mosque in Provadia.

The signing ceremony took place in Ankara, with officials from both countries attending, Turkiye Today reported on Wednesday.

VGM Director General Sinan Aksu said that the project aims to maintain the mosques’ original architectural integrity. He described the initiative as an effort to safeguard shared cultural history between the two nations.

The Sari Huseyin Pasha Mosque, built in 1703, is classified as a protected cultural heritage site in Bulgaria.

The Hz. Ebubekir Mosque, dating back to the early Ottoman period, remains in use despite structural wear.

No timeline or budget was disclosed, but officials confirmed restoration work will begin soon.
