IQNA – Sheikh Abdel Fattah Tarouti, a prominent Egyptian qari and jury member of the “Dawlat al-Tilawa” competition, said all contestants in the event are winners, even if they do not reach the final stage.

Tarouti: All Contestants in Egypt’s ‘Dawlat al-Tilawa’ Are Winners Through Experience

The “Dawlat al-Tilawa” (State of Recitation) contest is one of Egypt’s largest televised Quran recitation competitions. Organized by the Ministry of Awqaf in cooperation with the United Media Services company, it aims to discover and support emerging talents in Quran recitation.

Speaking to Egypt’s Youm7 television channel at the conclusion of the second round, Sheikh Tarouti said that participation itself was an achievement. “Every contestant in this stage has won by gaining experience and interacting with the jury, even if they do not advance to the finals,” he said.

He noted that this year’s competition has drawn a remarkable number of participants. “We have seen powerful and promising voices. It is the first time in recent years that the number of competitors has reached this level, and all of them deserve support,” Tarouti added.

The scholar also praised the Ministry of Awqaf for providing what he described as a genuine environment to train and encourage these talents. He said this would help raise a new generation of reciters who could carry forward the legacy of Egypt’s renowned Quran readers.

Tarouti stressed that top contestants must be carefully selected. “One day, these winners will recite on Egyptian radio. It is not fitting for an experienced reciter to make mistakes, even minor ones,” he cautioned. He also expressed personal anticipation about the final round, wishing success to all participants.

The competition seeks to highlight new voices in the tradition of iconic Egyptian reciters such as Abdul Basit Abdus Samad, Mohammed Siddiq al-Minshawi, and Mustafa Ismail. It also aims to enhance Egypt’s regional and international role in spreading Quranic heritage.
