According to Sabah, Silvyo Ovadya, leader of Turkish Jews and Isak Haleva, archbishop of the community issued a joint statement expressing their hatred on the attacks to religious sanctities. It reads “unfortunately we got informed of the attack made by a group of extremist Jewish settlers to a Palestinian great mosque in Salfit torching Quran copies and other religious sources found at the mosque.”
“It is considered illegal for everyone in every part of the world to attack a religious place with political intentions and desecrate it. As leaders of Turkish Jews, we strictly condemn the act which has no result other than intensifying crisis in the region.”
A group of fundamentalist illegal Israeli Jewish settlers burnt on Friday at dawn large sections of the “Great Mosque” in Yasouf village, near the central West Bank city of Salfit.
They broke into the mosque by smashing its main door and then poured fuel in it before setting it ablaze. The settlers also sprayed “Price Tag” and “We Will Burn You All” on the walls of the mosque.
