Islam & Environment Encyclopedia Planned

Director general of Qom province’s environment protection department said the organization is planning to compile an encyclopedia of Islam and the environment.

Mahmoud Ali Rokni told IQNA that the encyclopedia will be compiled in cooperation with Al-Mustafa International University.
He said the department is set to boost cooperations with the university especially in environmental research fields with the aim of promoting the Islamic culture of protecting the environment.
According to Mr. Rokni, establishment of new fields of study at Al-Mustafa University is among the joint activities between the university and the environment protection department.
He said the “Fiqh (jurisprudence) and Environment” major will be launched at the university in the next academic semester, and that establishment of other major like “Ethics, Environment and Philosophy” is under consideration.
Cooperations between the two will also include publishing a specialized magazine titled “Islam and the Environment”, organizing national and international conferences on environment, culture and faiths and conducting research projects, he went on to say.
