TEHRAN (IQNA) –  A child was killed and 17 others were wounded when a landmine left by the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group exploded in a village in Syria’s eastern province of Dier ez-Zur.

According to Syria’s official news agency SANA, the mine went off as children were playing in a schoolyard at al-Taybeh Village on Sunday.

A girl was killed in the blast and 17 other children were wounded, the report said.

It added that the victims were taken to hospitals in a nearby city. Two of the children are reported to be in critical conditions.

Daesh has been militarily defeated in Iraq and Syria and has lost all of its urban bastions in both Arab countries, but its remnants carry out sporadic attacks on government forces and civilians alike.

Mines left by the terrorist group in different parts of Syria go off every now and then, killing and injuring many people, mostly civilians.
