TEHRAN (IQNA) – Friday prayers were held at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem al-Quds yesterday with the participation of some 40,000 Palestinian worshippers.

They managed to enter the holy site despite restrictions imposed by the Israeli regime that prevented many more from attending the prayers.

Sheikh Azzam Khatib, director general of the Jordanian Waqf Department in Jerusalem al-Quds, said the worshippers had managed to enter the mosque in the early hours of Friday morning, Wafa news agency reported.

The occupying regime forces had set up numerous checkpoints in the entrances of the Old City, preventing many Palestinians from entering.

A day earlier, more than one hundred Zionist settlers raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound under protection of Israeli police. They had also raided the mosque on Sunday.

The Palestinian Authority condemned the provocative moves, saying they undermine the recent ceasefire reached between Palestinian resistance forces and Israel.
