He inspected the renovation work recently completed in the mosque, and the courtyards and architectural decorations.

El-Tayeb also learned about the services and equipment of the mosque and visited the streets leading to the place of worship, Al-Wafd News reported.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi opened the historical mosque in a ceremony in April after it was closed for restoration and maintenance work.

Addressing the ceremony, el-Sisi highlighted the government’s resolve to renovate and restore shrines in the country attributed to Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

The Imam Hussein (AS) was originally constructed in 1154 and was reconstructed in 1874.

The famous mosque is one of the largest Muslim places of worship in Egypt and is known for hosting Quran recitations by great qaris of Egypt.
