TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) has dispatched a medical team to northern Syria for providing aid to those affected by deadly earthquakes.

The team is comprised of 40 experts and physicians.

According to the Astan, some of the Syrian patients will be brought to Iraq for further treatment.

Two earthquakes hit southern Turkey on February 6, inflicting extensive damage on Turkey and northern Syrian regions.

At least 45,000 people have been confirmed dead in both countries as the death toll is expected to rise.

Meanwhile, years-long sanctions against Syria have hampered the delivery of aids to the war-torn nation.
