Official in Karbala Stresses Muslim Unity under Banner of Quran

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The secretary general of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine in Karbala, Iraq, said Muslims all over the world should unite under the banner of the Holy Quran.

Hassan Rashid al-Ajayebi made the remark at the closing ceremony of the 16th edition of the ‘Spring of Martyrdom’ international festival, also stressing the importance of combatting extremism and promoting the culture of mercy and compassion.

He said one of the aims of the festival is to enhance the culture of empathy and helping those in need.

He noted that after a call by Iraqi top Shia cleric Ayatollah Seyed Ali al-Sistani. Iraqi people and religious institutions sent thousands of tons of aid to quake-hit Turkey and Syria.

The official further referred to the necessity to confront deviated currents and protect the religious identity and culture.

The Rabee’-ul-Shahadah (spring of martyrdom) international religious-cultural is annually held on the birthday anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), Hazrat Abbas (AS) and Imam Sajjad (AS) in the lunar month of Shaaban.

This year, the three occasions fell on February 24, 25 and 26 respectively.

It is aimed at fostering the Islamic culture and the teachings of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) and developing bonds with Muslims all around the world.

Delegation from 44 countries took part in the religious and cultural event, according to the website of the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine.

Various programs, including a book fair, art exhibition, cultural activities for women and Quranic circles were held during the festival, whose motto was “Imam Hussein (AS) in Hearts of Nations”.
