TEHRAN (IQNA) – One of the duties of Muslims, according to the Quran, is their duty to urge family members to say prayers.

Saying prayers

“Instruct your family to pray and to be steadfast in their worship.” (Verse 132 of Surah Taha)

Sometimes family members may show resistance but one should remain steadfast and invite them to religion and Salah through different means. He should not abandon the issue after he tries several times and fails.

This is the general principle of Promotion of Virtue, which is a pillar of religiosity in Islam. But the fact that there is a verse in the Quran that specifically called for instructing family members to say prayers shows the special importance of Salah and the necessity to promote it.

The rest of the verse is also very important as it shows why the first part stresses instructing family members to say prayers:

“Instruct your family to pray and to be steadfast in their worship. We do not ask any sustenance from you; it is We who give you sustenance. Know that piety will have a happy end.” (Verse 132 of Surah Taha)
