TEHRAN (IQNA) – Family is the axis of civilization clashes as there are disputes over issues like abortion and homosexuality between Muslim countries and the West.

This is according to university scholar Fariba Alasvand, speaking about the issue of family in Islam and the West. Following are excerpts from her remarks:

Family has been instituted at the order of God and on this basis, the coming together of man and woman is legitimate. God created Adam and Eve and they were attracted to one another.

Verses from Surah An-Nisa emphasize that the Quran attaches importance to marriage and raising pure generations.

There are also Hadiths emphasizing that there is no foundation more sacred than family in Islam.

In one of the articles of the Declaration of Human Rights, it is implied that the concept of legitimacy (legitimate birth) should be emptied of its sacredness. This has led to changes (in family life in the West) since the 1960s and 1970s.

In all divine laws, getting married to close relatives is forbidden. Another issue is heterosexuality. The culture minister of the Vatican in a meeting said that there are three principles in a marriage: That it is unity between a man and a woman, that there are natural differences between man and woman, and that marriage is for reproduction.

Allameh Tabatabaei, in his Al-Mizan Exegesis of the Quran, says that the natural purpose of marriage is reproduction.

Homosexuals may claim that if the purpose of marriage is peace of mind and sexual gratification, they have them but they cannot claim that homosexuality can have reproduction.

Another point is that religion, and especially Islam, underline the relation between faith and marriage, saying that marriage completes half of one’s faith.

Family is the axis of civilization clashes. The Republicans in the US follow the Catholic Church. They support religion and the family and are opposed to abortion and homosexuality. Their efforts prevented abortion to become a federal law. The Democrats are the opposite.

This conflict exists more intensely between Muslim countries and the West. Some feminist and anti-family groups try to legitimize abortion. They say why women should suffer from the consequences and hardships of giving birth and having children.

There is a powerful media outlet for institutionalizing homosexual relationships in the world and in 80 percent of Hollywood’s movies there are references to homosexuality. They also tell children that some families may have two fathers or two mothers and this is the last bastion they seek to destroy in order to destroy the institution of the family.
