Outline of Great Figures’ Life in Quran
Even in the 21st century, many people make the same mistakes that people in the past made because they do not pay attention to history.
The Holy Quran offers a summary of the stories of the past to give us lessons.
Reading the stories of great figures living in the past is always beneficial because one can take such figures as role models in life.
People’s lives in different eras are generally the same and have no fundamental difference. So by learning about the life of those living in the past, we can avoid their mistakes and do what benefited them.
Imam Ali (AS) said, “O creatures of Allah! Time will deal with the survivors just as it dealt with those gone by.”
The Holy Quran narrates the stories of messengers of God and describes the social environment where they lived.
For example, it talks about Prophet Abraham (AS). He lived in a city whose people were idolaters. His mission was to help them abandon their ignorant conduct and start worshipping God. The Quran also describes how, at the order of God, Abraham (AS) left his wife and his son in the desert and how he sought to sacrifice his son.
Another prophet whose life is mentioned in the Quran is Moses (AS). He spent his childhood in pharaoh’s palace and at adulthood was tasked with saving the Bani Isra’il from pharaoh. After fulfilling this task, he faced many harassments and hardships created by the Bani Isra’il who complained a lot about everything.
Other prophets whose life stories have been mentioned in the Quran include Adam (AS), Noah (AS), Hud (AS), Salih (AS), Ismail (AS), Yusuf (AS), Jesus (AS), etc.
The fact that the Quran points to the stories of their life signifies the fact that taking great and pious figures as role models plays an important role in helping people grow and make progress in life. And this is what today’s society neglects.
