The event, open to all residents of Blackburn, will take place on Sunday, September 17, from 12pm to 2pm (for women and children) and 2pm to 4pm (for men).
The main objective of the Community Wellness Day is to emphasize the importance of early intervention and provide information about the available local support for individuals after a diagnosis. Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to undergo blood pressure and health checks, receive advice from professionals representing Bowel and Breast Cancer Screening Services, Lung Care and Gynae Care teams, Macmillan Cancer Support, Blackburn with Darwen Health Watch, and IMO Diabetes Awareness, as well as gather information from other health stalls.
Moreover, an inflatable bowel tour and the HARRI Bus, a health and wellbeing engagement vehicle operated by Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundations Trust, will be present at the event. Shakil Salam, a representative from the Lancashire Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, expressed that the event aims to bring the community together and provide access to a wide range of service providers from health, social, community, and voluntary sectors, all in one location.
Salam mentioned the intention to overcome language barriers, cultural differences, and concerns in order to encourage individuals to prioritize their health and seek necessary check-ups. He emphasized the event's aim to help the local community understand their health needs and emphasized the support available to them, Lancashire Telegraph reported.
In addition to raising health awareness, the Community Wellness Day also aims to gather crucial funds to support the Morocco Earthquake Disaster Appeal. The event will be officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn, Councillor Parwaiz Akhtar and his wife Shagufta, at 1pm. Attendees will also be able to enjoy food, including a BBQ, and participate in activities such as Mehndi (Henna) body art, face painting, and a bouncy castle for children.
