LONDON (IQNA) – A dedicated group of Muslim trekkers, committed to supporting their mosque, received a heartwarming welcome upon their return.

'Team Buraq,' consisting of fifty volunteers, took on a demanding journey to Mount Snowdon and was greeted with exuberant cheers and a display of fireworks upon reaching Blackburn.

Awaiting their arrival at the Roomali - At The Woodlands Restaurant on Preston New Road were friends and family, who had gathered to celebrate the team's accomplishment. The objective of 'Team Buraq' has been to raise funds for the new Islamic Education Centre located near Davenport Road in the town. With aspirations to secure the remaining funds in the upcoming year, the team aims to finalize the mosque's construction. Notably, all funds for the mosque's creation have been sourced from donations and fundraising endeavors, much like this trek, Asian Image reported.

Over recent years, the group has engaged in a series of sponsored walks and cycling events, reflecting a remarkable display of communal determination. This concerted effort to establish the mosque has seen active involvement from people of diverse ages and backgrounds, exemplifying the strength of community unity.

Among the volunteers, 18-year-old Ibrahim Tabassam emerged as one of the youngest contributors, successfully raising £6,265. Impressively, the fundraisers garnered more than £60,000 in pledges during this latest challenge alone. Tabassam Zabier, a participant in the trek and a key figure in managing the fundraising initiatives, expressed the team's immense joy.

“It is not easy asking people to take part in sponsored walks and challenges but we are inspired by how people are coming to help our cause over and over again,” he said, adding, “These fundraising efforts have brought people together and it was a wonderful to see people giving up their free time to help again.”

Formed three years ago to spearhead fundraising efforts, 'Team Buraq' remains resolute in its pursuit of targets. Tabassam, a co-founder of the group, asserted, "We are still fundraising and still behind our eventual target and we will keep going … But it has been a great achievement all involved and everyone who is part of Team Buraq deserves huge credit for their efforts."

The new Islamic Education Centre, conceived in the 1980s, is poised to replace the existing mosque, which has become insufficient for the local population. Encompassing modern classrooms for children as well as a funeral area, the center will provide a comprehensive facility for the community's evolving needs.
