TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Iranian international affairs expert said if Israel launches a ground offensive into the Gaza Strip, it will get stuck there and that worsens the situation for the occupation regime.

Speaking to IQNA, Ali Bigdeli said the Israeli regime is not capable of engaging in hand to hand combat for a long time and will have to end the battle in a short time.

Experience shows that the regime always begins an offensive and ends it in a short time because a war of attrition would inflict heavy losses on its forces, he said.

He said it seems unlikely that a ground operation against Gaza will take place.

He added that the Americans are also against a ground invasion and try to prevent it because it would make the situation more complicated and dangerous for Israel.

In fact, US President Joe Biden’s trip to Tel Aviv was aimed at preventing extremist measures by Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli far-right Likud party, Bigdeli opined.

He went on to say that dragging out the war, especially after the Israeli regime’s attack on a Gaza hospital that led to the martyrdom of more than 500 patients and medical staff, has turned the world against the Zionists, which is evident in extensive rallies being held across the globe in support of Hamas and in solidarity with the people of Gaza.

On Saturday, a high-ranking official with Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah said Palestinians will turn Gaza into a graveyard for Israeli troops if the regime launches a ground invasion of the besieged territory.

“We have no option but victory and the occupiers have no option but defeat,” Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said in a live speech.

Israel launched airstrikes on Gaza on October 7, after the Hamas resistance movement’s Al-Aqsa Flood Operation.

More than 4,385 Palestinians, mainly civilians, have been killed across the Gaza Strip as a result of the brutal bombardments. Over 13,560 people have also been injured.

Hamas said the operation was in retaliation for the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and growing violence by Israeli settlers.
