Translator of Quran into Odia Language Dies

NEW DELHI (IQNA) – An Indian Muslim scholar who translated the Holy Quran into the Odia language died at the age of 85.

Abdul Qadar Khan died in Bhubaneswar, a city in India’s eastern state of Odisha, earlier this week.

Khan retired as Under Secretary in the Law Department of the State Government and was involved in many social service activities.

He was the founder of the Sri Bihar Association at Chandrashekharpur and was its president for many years.

He did many constructive works including translation of the Quran and also translated many other religious books.  

He passed the graduation exam in Political Science from IGNOU at the age of 74.

Odia is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in the Indian state of Odisha. It is the official language in Odisha, where native speakers make up 82% of the population, and it is also spoken in parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
