TEHRAN (IQNA) – Civil society institutes must assume leadership of popular movements in confronting the Israeli regime and resolving the Palestinian crisis, a Bahraini rights activist said.

Dr. Baqer Darwish, the president of the Bahrain Forum for Human Rights

Dr. Baqer Darwish, the president of the Bahrain Forum for Human Rights, made the remark in an international webinar held Wednesday to address the failure of international law and organizations to protect Palestinians in the face of Israeli state terrorism.

Organized by International Quran News Agency, the webinar, titled “Israeli Terrorism and Failure of International Humanitarian Law”, was attended by a group of experts from different countries.

In his address, Darwish criticized certain sides in the region that have failed to help the Palestinian nation and remained silent over the atrocities committed by the Zionists in the Gaza Strip.

He said they even defended the Zionists, joining a deceitful wave launched by Western media against the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation carried out by the Hamas resistance movement.

He also underlined the role of civil society institutes in the world, saying their international responsibilities go beyond merely condemning and criticizing the Zionist regime’s crimes in the Gaza Strip and in occupied territories.

They ought to take the leadership of popular movements and establish networks and coalitions and use such means as economic boycotts, which are effective in confronting the Israeli regime, he said.

The Bahraini activist said they should use the media and other means to inform the world about the nature of the occupation regime and to encourage support for the Palestinian nation.

“We should realize that this is our duty and responsibility. It is a great moral responsibility, especially given the fact that some are pursuing the eradication of the Palestinian issue through such plots as normalization of ties with the Zionist regime,” he stated.

The “Israeli Terrorism and Failure of International Humanitarian Law” webinar was held on the day marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

As well as Dr. Baqer Darwish, it featured speeches by Seyyed Jafar Razavi, an expert on West Asia affairs, Dr. Amiruddin Jahaf, the head of Yemen Human Rights Group, Dr. Yasser Abu Heen, the head of Palestinian Media Union, and Iyad Abu Nasser, a former Palestinian prisoner from Gaza, and Ali Al-Sahib, and Iraqi analyst.

The speakers shared their views and experiences on the Israeli violations of human rights and international law in Palestine, particularly in the besieged Gaza Strip.

They also conferred on the role and responsibility of the international community and organizations in protecting the rights of oppressed people.
