IQNA – Spanish fashion giant Zara is under scrutiny for its latest promotional campaign, drawing criticism from various quarters who argue that it appears to glorify the destruction in Gaza.

The campaign, designed to showcase a new jacket collection, features a model positioned amid rubble and mannequins, draped in white garments reminiscent of shrouds.

Observers have noted the stark resemblance to the aftermath of Israel's military aggression on Gaza, where more than 18,000 lives, including thousands of children, have been lost.

The imagery portrays scenes of damaged and demolished structures, mirroring the distressing visuals from Gaza that have garnered global attention.

Melanie Elturk, CEO of the fashion brand Haute Hijab, expressed her dismay, stating, "This is sick. What kind of sick, twisted, and sadistic images am I looking at?"

This is not the first time Zara has courted controversy; previously, the brand faced criticism when its Israeli franchise holder hosted extremist Israeli minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

Entrepreneur and designer Samira Atash has called for a boycott of Zara in response to the campaign.

She described the editorial as "disgusting," highlighting elements such as white-shrouded bodies, limbless mannequins, broken concrete resembling a pine box akin to Muslim coffins, and powdery substances that some have likened to white phosphorus.

The fashion giant is facing renewed calls for a boycott, with the hashtag #BoycottZara attracting 110,000 posts on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Zara claims that the series represents a "limited edition collection celebrating our commitment to craftsmanship and passion for artistic expression."
