The destruction of the cemeteries is a grave violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits attacks on places of worship, burial sites and cultural heritage. It also adds to the suffering of the Palestinian people, who have been living under a brutal Israeli siege for more than 15 years.
The war on Gaza, which began on Oct. 7, also destroyed much of the infrastructure, including homes, schools, hospitals, mosques, roads and power lines, creating an "unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe", according to Palestinian and international sources.
