Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in Medina. It is the longest chapter of the Quran.
The name Al-Baqarah (the cow) comes from the story of the cow of the Bani Isra’il that is mentioned in the Surah.
The inclusiveness of the chapter with respect to Islamic beliefs and practical issues (economic, social, political, ect) is undeniable.

It is narrated that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was asked what Surah is the best in the Quran and he replied Surah Al-Baqarah, And then he was asked about the top verse in the Surah and he pointed to Ayat al-Kursi.
