The European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) announced that the new moon of Ramadan will be on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 9:01 Universal Time, 12:01 Makkah time.
It said that the moon sighting is not a condition for determining the start of the month, but rather a means that can be replaced by precise calculations, "aboutislam" website reported on Wednesday.
The Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) usually follows ECFR.

Ramadan is the ninth and most sacred month of the Islamic calendar, in which Muslims commemorate the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, refraining from eating, drinking, smoking and sexual relations. They also devote more time to prayer, charity and good deeds, seeking to strengthen their faith and purify their souls.
One of the practices of Ramadan is to recite and study the Quran. Muslims aim to complete the reading of the entire Quran by the end of the month.
