“We are ready to participate in retaliatory actions against the Zionist regime in support of Iran,” the Iraqi movement said in a statement.

“The al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement condemns the savage and terrorist act of the usurping Zionist regime aimed at targeting Iran’s consulate in Syria with the strongest possible terms. This cowardly act of resistance, which led to the martyrdom of a number of IRGC commanders, including General Mohammad-Reza Zahedi and General Mohammad-Hadi Hajrahimi, and their comrades, is seen as a clear challenge to diplomatic balances and international agreements, akin to a declaration of war against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” it said.

On Monday afternoon, Israeli warplanes bombed the Iranian consulate, situated next to the embassy building in Damascus’s Mezzeh district.

The air raid killed two senior Iranian military personnel who were on an advisory mission to Syria as well as five of their accompanying officers.
