The contest will run for three days at the Youth Centre in the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The competition has 45 male and 23 female reciters. The top 30 participants with a mark reaching 80 percent and above will compete in the semi-final stage on Sunday.
From the 30 participants, five male and female Quran reciters will compete in the finals on June 6.
This is an annual project of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, coordinated by the Youth and Sports Department since the 1980s.
The competition has produced Quran reciters capable of competing at a higher level. The Quran contest is a platform for youth to showcase their talents.

Prior to the competition, participants enrolled in a Quran skills acquisition workshop for two days to fine-tune their Quran recitation skills, emphasizing important aspects like voice, Tajweed, Fasahah and tone.
